The Problem with Marvel Strike Force

Marvel Strike Force came out a year too late. That’s the main thing keeping me from enjoying it.

See, Marvel Strike Force is, essentially, the same video game as Star Wars, Galaxy of Heroes, but reskinned with Marvel characters instead of those from a galaxy far far away. In itself, that’s fine. I enjoy both universes and I enjoy the fundamental game mechanic (a mix of turn-based strategy, simulated real time strategy, and RPG-style character development).

The problem is, SWGOH has grown to include so much content now that it’s right on the edge of the envelope of exceeding my interest in the game. Even though you can auto/sim a lot of stuff, there’s a lot you can’t auto, especially if you want to be competitive. By the time I’m done with Arena, Fleet, the Sith raid, Territory Battles… I’ve had enough five-on-five turn-based combat for the day, thank you very much.

Then I turn around and I’ve got to do it all over again in Strike Force.

There was a time, a year ago, when I wanted more 5v5 combat that SWGOH could supply. I actively looked for a similar game to feed my addiction. But SWGOH kept adding more and more content and now, it fills up my interest meter completely by the time the day’s done. Strike Force feels more like a chore than a game.

Bad timing. If they’d gotten this out a year ago, I would have loved it.
